about liminal

Being in a liminal space means being in a stage of transformation, between one state and another.

It is in this space that we encourage our conversations about gender, masculinity and patriarchy to take place.

why liminal?

Liminal started with men’s circles: safe spaces where men can openly talk amongst each other about what is happening in their lives.

In these circles, men practice expressing their vulnerability, learning to express one’s emotions, while feeling seen and heard by others. Witnessing the transformative power of circles, we wanted to connect emotional self-awareness to societal awareness about gender inequality and gender roles.

We created liminal for this purpose: to link transformative, vulnerable exchanges to feminist theory. By connecting ideas about patriarchy, gender roles and accountability to personal experience, we want to create sustainable change.

vision & mission

vision

Liminal wants to contribute to a world liberated from the injustices caused by patriarchy and other intersecting systems of oppression. We wish to encourage a cultural shift and aim to continuously challenge the patriarchal status-quo in spaces of reflection, and authenticity.

mission

Liminal deconstructs patriarchal norms and gendered expectations in community, by holding each other accountable. We believe that everyone can, and men in particular must, contribute to gender justice, by reflecting on how patriarchy influences their identity, behaviour and relationships.

Liminal provides spaces for exchange, (un)learning, healing and growth, facilitating transformation through personal development supported by feminist theory.
